The standout feature of the TCL 40 NXTPAPER is its display. Sporting a 6.78-inch flat 1080p panel with a refresh rate of 90Hz, the screen appears conventional at first glance. However, upon closer inspection, it becomes evident that this display offers something entirely different – a reflection-free experience. Dubbed the NXTPAPER, TCL incorporates a full-color electronic paper display, which aims to replicate the appearance of traditional paper while delivering a visually pleasing and eye-friendly experience. What sets the NXTPAPER apart is its ability to eliminate reflections entirely, or almost entirely. They started with four-inch screens, then quickly grew to five-inch screens, and then six-inch screens became popular. Although seven-inch phones never became mainstream, most flagship phones now hover around that size. It’s funny how smartphone makers keep realizing that screens are getting bigger. But there’s still a niche for smaller phones to fit underneath the big ones. Companies like Samsung and Apple used to make mini versions of their flagship phones, but they don’t anymore. There was one standout small flagship phone left: the Asus Zenfone 9. It was nearly perfect with top-notch specs, great performance, long battery life, and solid cameras. The Zenfone 10 improved upon it in 2023 with better materials, wireless charging, and upgraded chips. But in 2024, Asus released a huge 6.8-inch phone, joining the trend of larger devices. This move wasn’t unexpected, considering how small flagships rarely last long. The iPhone 12 Mini faced a similar fate. Despite positive reviews, it didn’t sell well, leading to its discontinuation after just two years. The iPhone 13 Mini didn’t fare any better. The failure of the Mini iPhone experiment showed that not enough people buy small phones to justify the research and development costs. Even positive reviews couldn’t save it. Now, with the Zenfone 11 Ultra, Asus has made a good large flagship phone, but it’s lost the charm of being small and easily manageable. The design is a very subjective thing, but in my opinion, it’s very minimal and beautiful. The matte finishing back glass is the most gorgeous part of this Galaxy design. This flagship has an identical camera housing, which is an extra edge of this design. S23 Ultra is a super attractive device because of the identical look and ultimate hotness! Display : Size – 6.8” AMOLED | Screen to body – 89.9% | Refresh rate – 120Hz | Resolution – 1440×3088 Pixel & 19.3:9 Ratio & 500 PPI & 1750Nits (Peak) | Samsung uses a Dynamic AMOLED 2X display here, which is almost perfect. This is an almost bezel-less curve display with a very small punch hole cutout for the selfie camera. Here, I should say nothing if you just see the specs of this display. Just perfect! I have no complaints about this display at all. There’s also S Pen support that adds a lot more functionality of this amazing display. The design is a very subjective thing, but in my opinion, it’s very minimal and beautiful. The matte finishing back glass is the most gorgeous part of this Galaxy design. But this flagship has a very similar camera housing to Samsung’s mid-range lineup, which is the only drawback of this design. S23+ is a nice to hold device because of weight distribution, medium size, and simplicity! Display : Size – 6.6” AMOLED | Screen to body – 87.6% | Refresh rate – 120Hz | Resolution – 1080×2340 Pixel & 19.5:9 Ratio & 393 PPI & 1750Nits (Peak) | Samsung uses a Dynamic AMOLED 2X display here, which is almost perfect. This is an almost bezel-less flat display with a very small punch hole cutout for the selfie camera. Here, I should say nothing if you just see the specs of this display. Just fantastic! But they should use a QHD display like the Ultra model, which can improve the PPI that is currently below 400. Otherwise, I have no complaints about this display at all.
